F. A. Hayek’s Genealogy

This working paper – like its companion, Caldwell and Klausinger 2021 grew out of the authors’ joint work on Hayek: A Life, 1899–1950 (Caldwell 2022) it contains material supplementing it. draws to a large extent Friedrich Hayek’s own investigations into genealogical roots his family. On paternal side family ancestry is traced back ennoblement Friedrich’s great-great-grandfather Josef Hayek in 1789. maternal we enquire trees Fritz’s grandfather Franz von Juraschek first second wife, Johanna Stallner Ida Pokorny. Finally, look at relationship between Fritz two “distant cousins,” philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein girlfriend youth future Helene (“Lenerl”) Bitterlich.
